NEW HOMES IN NAUVOO FOR MISSIONARIES

NAUVOO HISTORIC DISTRICT HAS A NEW LOOK

The historic district of Nauvoo will look much different to many of those who have been here in the past.  Twenty four new brick homes are currently being built in the center of the historic tourist area.  These new homes consist of 4 single units, 9 duplexes, 6  tri-plexes, and five four-plexes.  This creates a total of 60 one bedroom units, for the sixty missionary couples, soon to be called for service in the Temple.  The areas in which the new units are being built are on Hotchkiss St. between route 96 and Hyde St., Munson St. between route 96 and Hyde St., Kimball St. between route 96 and Main St., Parley St. between Partridge St. and Main St., Partridge St. between Parley street and a Hotchkiss St., and Hyde St. between Parley St. and Hotchkiss St..

This significantly fills in the many empty spaces between the existing historic buildings and with the log cabins that were built in the past several years, brings us back to more similarly, the way it really was back in the 1840s. .

All the new homes are built on the outside as they would have looked in the 1840s.  Some are federal style and others use conventional type eaves as some of the 1840s homes actually had.  All the roofs on the new homes are cedar shingle, each having a combination living-room dining-room, a full kitchen, stacked washer dryer combination, a full bath and a large bedroom.  The bedroom and dining-room areas are nicely carpeted, with the remaining areas having a tile floor.  The units are each heated by a central forced hot air, natural gas furnace with air conditioning.

Eight of the new units are near completion with the cabinets and permanent heat installed and turned on just after Christmas.

These homes will be a great place for the newly called missionaries that will provide service in the Nauvoo Temple.
